What’s new on Streaming and VOD this week – June 2 to 7

This week marks the arrival of several new releases on streaming platforms, along with some digital and VOD films. From the final seasons of several long-running shows to the debut of more original movies, and even some Hollywood favorites returning to the screen. Also, we have a free screening of an award-winning film for you to watch online in celebration of World Oceans Day on June 8. Check out just some of the highlights below. ~Brie Davis

13 Reasons Why: Season 4传奇sf – In the powerful final season, Liberty High School’s Senior Class prepares for graduation. But before they can say goodbye, the crew of friends will have to band together one last time to keep a dangerous secret buried, try to make peace with the past four years, and face final, heartbreaking choices that might alter their lives forever. Available on Netflix June 5.

The Last Days of American Crime  – As a final response to terrorism and crime, the U.S. government plans to broadcast a signal that will make it impossible for anyone to knowingly commit unlawful acts. Graham Bricke (Édgar Ramírez), a career criminal who was never able to hit the big score, teams up with famous gangster progeny Kevin Cash (Michael Pitt), and black market hacker Shelby Dupree (Anna Brewster), to commit the heist of the century and the last crime in American history before the signal goes off. Available on Netflix June 5.

El Presidente – Sergio Jadue (Andrés Parra), a lowly director of a small-town soccer club in Chile, unexpectedly finds himself the president of the Chilean soccer association. Drunk with power, he pressures Marcelo Bielsa, one of the most revered soccer managers in the world, to resign as the coach of Chile’s national team. The bumbling Jadue becomes the protégé of the infamous head of the Argentine football association, Julio Grondona (Luis Margani), in addition to being one of the key players in a $150 million bribery conspiracy case. Jadue goes on to become the FBI’s key to undoing the largest corruption scheme in the world of soccer. Available on Amazon Prime Video June 5.

Lucy in the Sky – While on a mission in space, astronaut Lucy Cola (Natalie Portman) begins to lose touch with reality. When she returns to Earth, she has trouble interacting with others and has an affair with another astronaut, Mark Goodwin (Jon Hamm). When Mark dumps her, Lucy decides to kidnap new recruit Erin Eccles (Zazie Beetz), Mark’s new lover. Available on Crave June 5.

Sharkwater – Biologist Rob Stewart travels to the Galapagos Islands, Costa Rica and across four continents to demonstrate that sharks are misunderstood as dangerous creatures, bringing the devastating issue of shark finning for shark fin soup to the world stage. With 90 percent of the shark population destroyed, Stewart joins forces with Sea Shepherd conservationist Paul Watson to fight poachers who illegally kill them for their fins. to watch this multi award-winning film for free in celebration of World Oceans Day!

Becky – Jeff (Joel McHale) takes his rebellious daughter Becky (Lulu Wilson) on a weekend getaway to a lake house to help them reconnect after her mother’s death and have her warm up to his new girlfriend. But the gesture goes wrong when they’re visited by Dominick (Kevin James), an escaped convict leading a group of criminals on the run. The group invades the house, using violent tactics to find something specific hidden inside. Becky is forced to try and protect her family by any means possible. Available on VOD and Digital June 5.

Judy & Punch – Puppeteers Judy (Mia Wasikowska) and Punch (Damon Herrima) are trying to resurrect their marionette show. Punch seems to think he is the most talented puppeteer of his generation, however, that title actually goes to his wife. Instead, Punch has a bigger talent for drinking. One evening, Punch is left to care for the couple’s child and the night ends in a tragic and fatal accident. When Judy comes home and is horrified that her husband is responsible for the death of their child, Punch retaliates by beating her almost to death. He buries her body in the forest and goes off to town, saying his wife and child are missing. But Judy is still alive and teams up with a band of outcast heretics to enact revenge not only on Punch, but on the entire town. Available on Digital & VOD on June 5.

Made in Bangladesh – Shimu (Rikita Nandini Shimu) fled her abusive home situation as a child and went to the city of Dhaka, Bangladesh. She works in a clothing factory there, but faced with difficult and dangerous working conditions, she decides to start a union with her co-workers. In the face of threats from the management and the disapproval of her husband who is searching for work himself, Shimu is determined to go on. Together, the women must fight and find a way. Available via June 5.

2040传奇sf – What would the world look like in 2040? That’s what award-winning director Damon Gameau wants to know. Written as a letter to his four-year-old daughter, instead of focusing on the path we’re on now, he wants to look at how embracing the best environmental practices would change the world. From stopping deforestation to ending the reliance on fossil fuels, Gameau lays out a plan on how these solutions could regenerate the world for younger generations. Available on Digital and VOD June 5.
